Seven Months Ago
You sit across from one another.
You look at her.
She’s looking down.
The right corner of your mouth
curls into a quiet smile.
You tell her how beautiful she looks.
The right corner of her lip
curls into a quiet smile,
and she continues looking down.
Suddenly, she presses the button on the side of her
phone,
looks up,
and apologizes.
She asks you what you said,
to which you reply,
“Nothing. It was nothing.”
She never responds to your messages,
Yet, you still think about her.
Today,
I sit across from you.
You glance at your phone.
A slight frown touches your lips.
I ask you what’s wrong,
to which you reply,
“Nothing. It’s nothing.”
